On Windows XP and Vista, you receive the following error message when attempting to launch PCmover or a similar error message when attempting to launch PCsync 5 or Laplink Gold:

Cause

This error message is generated when Data Execution Prevention (DEP) is enabled and is preventing the Laplink application from launching.

Solution

You can either disable DEP or configure it to allow the Laplink Application to work by following these steps:

1. Right-click on the My Computer icon and select Properties
2. In Windows Vista, click on the Advanced System Settings link
3. Click on the Advanced tab
4. Click on the Settings button in the Performance section
5. Click on the Data Execution Prevention tab
6. Select one of these options:
7. • To disable DEP:
   • 1. Click on the Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only
     2. Click Ok
     3. Reboot the computer
     4. Launch you Laplink application again
   • To add the Laplink application to the list of allowed programs:
   • 1. Click on the Add button
     2. Use the browse button and select the appropriate file: Laplink Gold: C:\Program Files\Laplink Gold\Laplink.exe PCsync: C:\Program Files\Laplink\PCsync\PCsync.exe PCmover: C:\Program Files\Laplink\PCmover\PCmover.exe
     3. Click Ok until the windows are closed
     4. Launch your Laplink application again
