Question
Why does the status of a file I am trying to download read "Pending" for a long time?
Answer
There are usually two reasons for this:
If you are downloading a different version of a previously downloaded file, the file may
display as “Pending” due to ShareDirect’s patented SpeedSync component. SpeedSync improves download
times by only downloading the changed portions of the file. For instance, if 10% of a 100MB file
has changed since the previous download, only those 10MB of additional data will be transmitted.
However, SpeedSync must first calculate this difference. While it is making these calculations, you
file will appear as “Pending”. This “Pending” status doesn’t ordinarily last more than a minute.
If you are attempting to download a Microsoft Word or Excel file, the file may display as “
Pending” because it is currently in use. Due to Microsoft “locking” protocols, these types of files
cannot be downloading while they remain open on another member’s computer. When the member has
closed the files, ShareDirect will download them within the normal timeframe and you’ll see their
status change from “Pending” to “Downloaded”.
