Question
Error message: "This program has been damaged, possibly by a bad sector of the hard drive or a virus. Please reinstall it."
Answer
The AOL Security Center uses an old version of Computer Associates Anti-virus application. This
causes some Laplink applications to be detected as corrupt. Computer Associates has released fixes
for this issue, but AOL has not implemented the new versions or definition files.
We have had two workarounds reported to us so far. If you have any problems with these
steps, you will need to contact AOL support for assistance:
1) In the Control Panel, double-click on Admin Tools, click on Services, and set CA Pest
Patrol to “Manual”. You may need to remove & reinstall the Laplink product after doing this.
2) You can add the problem Laplink file (Laplink.exe, PCmover.exe, FileMover.exe,
PCdefense.exe, etc) to the list in the following registry key:
Use Regedit to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\ComputerAssociates\ITMRTOpen the
InjectExclude subKey and add the problem application to the list there.
Reboot the computer.
