Question

How do I rescue my data from a damaged hard drive?

Answer

To use LapLink V with todays large hard drives (larger than 4G), it is necessary to create a Windows 98 or Windows XP startup diskette. See the Windows Help for information on how to do this. After restarting the computer with this diskette, run LapLink V, connect, and transfer the files from the damaged hard drive. If the files you transfer use long file names, rename each file to it's original name after the computer is restarted into normal Windows. See the following Knowledge Base articles for additional information: Technical Document #718: How to Install and Use LapLink V/DOS to Rescue Data from a Computer.
