Question
Can I use a purple Laplink USB network cable for FileMover connections?
Answer
No, it is not recommended to use one of Laplink’s previous purple USB network cables. Not only are
they are not USB 2.0 compliant, but they also require that you download and install drivers, as
well as configure TCP/IP addresses.
Note: Such a USB network connection would be treated as a TCP/IP network
connection in FileMover if configured correctly. To take advantage of FileMover’s superior,
non-network built-in USB drivers, you must use either the Gold Laplink USB 1.1 cable, the Silver
Laplink USB 1.1 cable, or the Silver Laplink USB 2.0 cable.
In addition, the network adapter component of the purple USB network drivers may prevent
browsing the local TCP/IP network for the discovery of other FileMover computers. It is recommended
to uninstall these drivers.
