Question
Can I perform Internet connections in FileMover?
Answer
Theoretically, yes, if you supply the public IP address of the host PC. However, a firewall or
router will likely prevent FileMover connections. A personal firewall/router appliance that
performs NAT (Network Address Translation) could be configured to allow FileMover connections
through it. Essentially, the TCP port that FileMover uses must be forwarded to the internal IP
address of the FileMover computer behind the router. Laplink technicians cannot assist with
FileMover Internet connections, or with router configurations; though our knowledge base does
provide more information about
public IP addresses and
firewall configuration in regards to other Laplink
products.
Internet connections can be made more easily using other Laplink products, such as
Laplink Gold and the
Laplink Everywhere service. In addition, these products
offer more features than FileMover does, such as remote control of the host.
