Laplink Everywhere - FAQ's


How do I remove all traces of Laplink Everywhere from my computer?


The steps for doing this are as follows:

  1. Remove Laplink Everywhere and Laplink Secure VNC (if present) using Add/Remove Programs or Programs and Features (Vista) in the Control Panel (For Windows XP/Vista: Start -> Control Panel. For all others: Start -> Settings -> Control Panel).

  2. NOTE: If you are unable to uninstall due to a message about Laplink Everywhere running, make sure Laplink Everywhere is not already running on the computer and then try the uninstall again. To do this, use either or both of the following methods:
    • Right-click on the Laplink Everywhere icon in the System Tray (down by the clock) and choose Exit.
    • If the above icon is not present, then we need to stop the Laplink Everywhere processes manually. Press CTRL - ALT - DEL to bring up the Task Manager, click on the Processes tab, click on Image Name at the top of the list to sort the list alphabetically, and End Process on each of the following items by clicking on it to highlight it, then clicking the End Process button near the bottom right, and click Yes to confirm. NOTE: Not all of these may be present. If they are not present, then just continue on to the next one.
      Any item that begins with LL (LLServerMain2, LLOpenDB, & LLEventLog)
    NOTE: If you are still unable to uninstall, just continue with the instructions below.
  3. Reboot the computer.
  4. Right click on Start button and click on Explore. (In Windows 2000, XP, & Vista, this will open to your user profile by default).
  5. Above the Start Menu folder in your profile, click on the Cookies folder.
  6. Search for any @ll2go files and delete them.
  7. Under LOCAL DISK (C:) (or whichever drive you installed Laplink Everywhere) expand the Program Files folder. Delete any of the following folders, if they are present:
    • Laplink Everywhere
    • Laplink Secure VNC
    • OmniCom\winShadow

Remove Registry Entries:

Note: Before making the following changes, make a backup of your registry. See Technical Document 111: How do I Backup and Restore the Windows Registry for more information. Alternatively for Windows XP users, see Technical Document 670: How to Create a Windows XP Restore Point.

Note: The automatic script below will remove all registry keys used by Laplink Everywhere and the new Remote Control 4 in Laplink Everywhere 4. The manual removal instructions only provide the steps to remove Laplink Everywhere. For advanced users who wish to delete the keys manually, save the .reg files below, right-click on them, and choose Edit to see the list of keys and values that are being removed.


  1. Click on the link below that matches the Windows version of the host computer:

  2. For computers running Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows NT, Click here.
    For computers running Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows 2003, or Windows Vista, Click here.
  3. Select Run or Open when prompted
  4. Click Yes to import the information into the registry
  5. Click Ok to the message that it has completed the import.
  6. Restart the computer

  1. From the Window Start menu, click Run, type REGEDIT and click OK.
  2. Click on the plus (+) beside HKEY_CURRENT_USER.
  3. Click on the plus (+) beside Software.
  4. Click on the plus (+) beside LapLink.
  5. Select the following sub-folders, and press the delete key. Choose yes to confirm deletion.

    · LLWebServer
  7. Scroll back to the top of this window and click the minus (-) sign next to HKEY_CURRENT_USER to close it.
  8. Click the plus (+) sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.
  9. Click the plus (+) sign next to Software .
  10. Click on the plus (+) beside LapLink.
  11. Select each of the following sub-folders (if it exists), and press the delete key. Choose yes to confirm deletion.

    · LLE5
    · LLWebServer
  13. Click on the plus (+) beside Microsoft.
  14. Click on the plus (+) beside Windows.
  15. Click on the plus (+) beside CurrentVersion.
  16. Click on the plus (+) beside Uninstall.
  17. Delete the {C26FFE21-5D48-11D6-BE4B-00E0811075DD} folder if it exists.
  18. Close the Registry Editor window.
  19. Restart the computer


If you wish to reinstall Laplink Everywhere after the above, follow these steps:
  • Please ensure you are connected to the internet - Launch Internet Explorer and confirm that it can access an external web site. Please leave it running.
  • If you use Microsoft Outlook as your e-mail client, launch Outlook and leave it running.
  • Install LapLink Everywhere. You can download from the appropriate link on the
    Laplink Everywhere Downloads web page
  • When you run Laplink Everywhere after these steps, you will be taken to the web page to assign the computer to a Laplink Everywhere account. Click on the appropriate button for the creation of a new account or to assign the computer to an existing one. You will need to give the computer a new name that is unique in that account.
  • Once the connection is working fine, you can transfer licenses, delete the old computer name, and change the new one to match the old.
